A break with tradition: Will ‘Pol Roger’ be champagne of choice at royal wedding?

Pol Roger

Buckingham Palace has not confirmed the champagne of choice for the royal wedding, but royal watchers have a few good guesses…

The number one contender at the moment for the royal wedding bubbly is Pol Roger.

Decanter.com (allegedly) has it on the highest authority Pol Roger NV will be popped open on the 29th; the WallStreet Journal reports England consumes more Pol Roger than any other country and it was a favorite of Sir Winston Churchill.

Pol Roger

While Pol Roger isn’t exactly a “shocking” choice, it would be rather unusual, it has never before been served at a royal wedding.

Past brands of champagne at royal nuptials have included Krug, Bollinger and Moët & Chandon.

“The British Monarchy has a preference for several French Champagne houses, including Krug, Bollinger and Moët & Chandon, which have all been served at previous Royal Weddings and were considered possibilities for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton,” reports wine access.

Bollinger, GH Mumm et Cie, Laurent-Perrier, Louis Roederer, Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot  possess Royal Warrants to supply the British monarchy with Champagne, this means any of the former brand-names could potentially be the choice for next week.

Reports say the champagne will be sipped before guests sit down to a meal prepared by Anton Mosimann, at the evening wedding reception hosted by Prince Charles, and earlier in the day at the wedding breakfast at Buckingham Palace.

“Which wines will be served during the wedding breakfast at Buckingham Palace after the ceremony in Westminster Abbey is still a matter of debate: there are unconfirmed reports that an English wine will be on the table.”

Royal roundup: Michael and Carole Middleton meet the Queen, Kate shops for honeymoon?

Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II has finally met Kate Middleton’s parents— She invited Michael and Carole Middleton to Windsor Castle on Wednesday for a private lunch (and a spot of tea perhaps?).

Kate Middleton was first introduced to the Queen in May 2008, at the marriage of William’s cousin Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly, reports AFP.

“It was in amongst a lot of other guests and she was very friendly,” Kate recalled in an interview to mark her engagement last November.

Prince William added  “She had wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello. We had a little chat and got on very well.”

William to spend night before wedding at St. James’s palace with father and possibly brother.

Prince William will spend the night before his Wedding at St. James’s Palace with Price Charles and Prince Harry.

Reports say Prince William will spend his last night as a bachelor with his father at St. James’s Palace, where Prince Harry will join them the next day— before they set off to Westminster Abbey—where the prince will marry Kate Middleton.

“Prince Charles will reportedly cut short his Easter break in Scotland and has been excused from attending a dinner for foreign nationals hosted by the Queen so that he can be by his son’s side,” says Splash news.

They’re very close,” said a Sun source to AFP of the three person family. It’s possible they’ll spend time alone with their father on the eve of the wedding.’

A source told The Sun, ‘Prince Charles is a loving father who’s a lot closer to his sons than people often realise. He’s made it clear his priority in the hours before the wedding is his son.’

Kate Middleton spotted shopping in London, for her honeymoon?

Kate Middleton shopping in London, Fame.

Kate Middleton was spotted shopping in London for clothing on Tuesday— the pieces she purchased are probably for her honeymoon, sources say.
She picked up $350 worth of summary items from the British retailer “Warehouse” on King’s road and also stopped by Banana Republic:

“Speculation is that Middleton is stocking up on essentials for her forthcoming honeymoon;” said the Telegraph. “…the four pieces she picked up in Warehouse, including a poppy-print strapless dress, £60 and a short tropical bird-print dress, £65, are rather “holiday” in spirit. She also bought several items from Banana Republic’s summer collection, although the store refused to divulge specifics.”

She exited the store with three dresses and a blouse, says People.

People reports the frock above is one of three Kate middleton purchased for her honeymoon.

“She popped in and had a quick look around [Warehouse] with a friend,” a spokesperson told People. “It was very exciting, and everyone said how lovely and down-to-earth she was.”

Then “the imminent bride chatted to staff about how she “loves Banana Republic,” and how she “will be shopping with them in future,” reports the Telegraph. They also report some of her other favorite shopping destinations:”She often shops at TK Maxx for heavily-discounted designer brands,” says the Telegraph, “as well as at high-street favourites LK Bennett and Whistles, and regularly recycles her favourite pair of suede knee-high boots for public outings.”

Prince Harry: Has the royal ‘wildchild’ been tamed?

London night clubs, alcohol, cigarettes, cannabis and the famous Nazi costume?

These are all elements that come to mind when someone utters the phrase “Prince Harry.”

Many of Harry’s harshest critics are now saying he’s begun to mature, highlighted by his recent promotion to ‘Captain Harry Wales’ in the Army Air Corps in recognition of his service in the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, he’s been preparing for his role as best man at Prince William’s Royal nuptials on April 29th.

Harry has been taking on responsibilities of party planning, writing a best man speech and has been punctual for wedding rehearsals.

“The DJ, the playlists, cocktail menu, food ideas. . .so much is all from Harry.,” reports whyfame.com.

Below, recent commentary from royal watchers suggesting Harry has matured from his wildchild years:

  • Duncan Larcombe, The Sun newspaper’s royal editor, said  “Getting the Apache badge is “not bad for a lad famous for partying and getting in drunken scrapes.
  • “Harry has changed public perceptions of himself,” said Richard Palmer, the Daily Express newspaper’s royal reporter to AFP. “…although he still likes a drink and a smoke, he seems to have become so much more mature.”People who work for him credit the army for that.”
  • Katie Nicholl, author of a book on William and Kate, “The Making of a Royal Romance”, said going to Afghanistan made the public take Harry far more seriously. “It really was a turning point in his military career and in his life also. Harry really has grown up. You don’t see him falling out of nightclubs and disgracing himself.”
