Two hats rented and worn to engagements with Prince William (now the Duke of Cambridge) by the former Kate Middleton have sold at auction for three times their guide price, say reports.
An anonymous American bidder snatched up the pieces of fashion history at the Passion for Fashion auction in London yesterday, reports The Belfast Telegraph.
The now Duchess of Cambridge rented the items for an estimated £100 each at Get Ahead Hats in Reading, says The Daily Telegraph.
The hats were expected to sell at auction for £1,000-£1,500 a piece, but they fetched much more than that: the Philip Somerville hat brought in £3,224 and the Aurora hat went for £3,720.
Rental receipts, and diary entries showing Kate’s appointments at Get Ahead Hats, were auctioned off as well.
Events took place at the very same auction house (Kerry Taylor Auctions) that sold the famous see-though dress Kate wore in a St. Andrews University Fashion show; the frock is said to have piqued William’s interest in Kate.

The Duke of Cambridge celebrates his 30th birthday today and stands to inherit an estimated 10 million pounds from a trust set up by his mother, Princess Diana.
Despite the extra income, officials say there won’t be any significant changes to William’s lifestyle.
A royal aide has confirmed the latter notion to the Daily Telegraph:
“Whatever the financial position might be, you will see no obvious change of lifestyle over the coming weeks or months,” said the aide.
“There has been speculation about the Duke and Duchess having a house built but there are no plans for that at all.”
“If the Duke decides next year to continue his Search and Rescue career he might well have to move to another base, away from Anglesey, so the idea of a new house just isn’t on the radar at the moment.”
How did the Duke celebrate his special day? Predictably. Low-key and with close friends and family.
A spokesman for the Duke told The Telegraph: “He will spend some of his birthday at Highgrove, where he has been based this week, then whatever he does at the weekend will be low-key and private.”

As tradition dictates, the Queen led a procession of knights and royals from Windsor Castle to St. George’s Chapel, where a special service was held.
Members of the order were greeted and cheered as they processed the half mile on foot towards the castle’s chapel, by 7,000 specially-invited members of the public, reports the Daily Mail.
The Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall and Countess of Wessex watched from the Galilee Porch entrance, as their husband’s, in their traditional blue velvet cloaks of the Garter Order, made their way towards St. St George’s Chapel.
After the special service took place, the Queen and senior members of the royal family returned to the castle via carriage.

Thousands gathered to help celebrate the Queen’s official birthday on Saturday. The monarch’s birthday is actually in April, but the Trooping, a traditional military display, occurs yearly on a Saturday in June, because of the fine weather. This year, however, the weather was rather windy; in a few instances, The Duchess of Cambridge‘s hat looked as if it might take flight, as the Daily Mail pointed out this weekend.Photo Credit: BBC
This year’s Trooping the Colour military parade was an especially joyous occasion for the royal family; Prince Philip, clad in a Colonel of the Grenadier Guards uniform, was out of the hospital and back by the Queen’s side for her official birthday celebrations on Saturday. The Queen, as Colonel-in-Chief, proudly wore her Brigade of Guards brooch.
The event was a traditional display of pomp and pageantry: “Some 1,600 officers and soldiers in the traditional uniforms of the Household Cavalry, Royal Horse Artillery and Foot Guards took part in the parade,” reports The Daily Mail.“with more than 200 horses and around 290 musicians from 10 bands and corps of drums.”

The Duke of Cambridge, who rode on horseback during the parade, looked very dashing, wearing the very same uniform he wore during the royal wedding; the uniform of a Colonel of the Irish Guards. He arrived for the parade with The Prince of Wales, also in uniform (Colonel of the Welsh Guards) and The Duke of Kent (Colonel of the Scots Guards).

The audience was packed with 150 school children from The Art Room, a charity of which Kate is a patron .
The Duchess made an effort to talk to both the children and the cast members at the performance, which was created by theatre company ThreeSixty.
“Having a royal patron like the Duchess of Cambridge is fantastic for a small charity like us,” Juli Beattie, founder and director of The Art Room told media. “To see the children’s reaction was overwhelming. It was a fantastic visual experience for all of them.”

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s Prince Charming, the Duke of Cambridge, affectionately kept a hand on Kate’s back as he led her through the churchyard; it is turning into a signature move of William’s, as he often places a hand on his wife’s back when walking into events or chatting at receptions.
Kate looked effortlessly classy in a silk, floral Jenny Peckam dress; it was the same she wore to a polo match during her North American tour with William.

People may have been out late last night celebrating the Queen’s 60 years on the throne at the Diamond Jubilee Concert, but this didn’t stop thousands from lining the streets this morning to watch Her Majesty arrive in style at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Following the service, the Queen attended three receptions: first, the Queen went to Mansion House, to a reception hosted by the Lord Mayor of London. The Youth Orchestra Choir performed the Commonwealth anthem; second, the Queen continued on to The Guildhall, to a reception hosted by The City of London.
According to the mail, the rest of the St. Paul’s congregation met the Queen at the Guildhall, as did a host of senior members of the royal family; lastly, before the carriage procession, the royal family ate lunch at Westminster Hall.

The weather may have been gloomy and a few of the main events of the celebratory day (like the flypast) cancelled, but that didn’t stop around one million people from lining the Thames on Sunday to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee via the River Pageant.
The nation looked on as around 1,000 boats escorted Queen Elizabeth and the senior members of the royal family down the River Thames; it was a new world record for the number of boats taking part in a parade, according to the Daily Mail.
