Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall: How they got engaged
We are well aware of the “very romantic” (in Kate’s words) wedding proposal William gave to the now Duchess of Cambridge in Kenya, but there is another royal wedding next month, and little has been said about how Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall became engaged.
Looking at pictures of the couple, it’s clear the lovebirds are drastically more laid back than the average royal pair.
Tindall popped the question in the same casual manner that characterizes their relationship:
“I had been thinking about it for ages,” Mike Tindall said, according to the Herald Sun.
“Then my brother got engaged and so did a certain Duke of Cambridge, so I thought I’d better get on with it. Zara was downstairs watching television.”
“I wanted to catch her when it was quiet and she wasn’t expecting anything. I walked in there and got down on one knee with the ring. She was on the sofa, so that made it easier. I said, ‘Will you marry me?”
“She started laughing but she said yes. That was a relief. Saturday night, on the sofa with the dogs watching X-Men, that’s what our life is like.”
The engagement was announced via the British monarchy’s Twitter page: “The Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Zara Phillips to Mike Tindell,” said the message.
