The Duchess of Cambridge spent last evening under a tent in the Kensington Gardens, watching a dazzling production of a C.S. Lewis classic: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

The audience was packed with 150 school children from The Art Room, a charity of which Kate is a patron .

The Duchess made an effort to talk to both the children and the cast members at the performance, which was created by theatre company ThreeSixty.

“Having a royal patron like the Duchess of Cambridge is fantastic for a small charity like us,” Juli Beattie, founder and director of The Art Room told media. “To see the children’s reaction was overwhelming. It was a fantastic visual experience for all of them.”

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s Prince Charming, the Duke of Cambridge, affectionately kept a hand on Kate’s back as he led her through the churchyard; it is turning into a signature move of William’s, as he often places a hand on his wife’s back when walking into events or chatting at receptions.

Kate looked effortlessly classy in a silk, floral Jenny Peckam dress; it was the same she wore to a polo match during her North American tour with William.

The Middleton family traveled down the River Thames on the Elizabethan Sunday, riding behind the Queen as a part of the royal squadron during the Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

Carole and Michael Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents, and her siblings, James and Pippa Middleton, all partook in the festivities to celebrate the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

The Middleton family’s invitation by the Queen to take part in the big day caught many by surprise; it suggests recognition by the Queen of the Duchess of Cambridge’s important role within the royal family.

Wedding photographer speaks highly of Duke and Duchess

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were recently praised openly by their wedding day photographer, Hugo Burnand, for their ‘kindness’ and ‘good manners.’ Burnand told Bang Showbiz of the lovely experience he had working with the royal couple last April:

Prince William and Catherine are the kindest people, they have the most fantastic good manners,” he said. “It was not just an honour and a privilege to have such an important commission but it was an honour and privilege to work with two such lovely people, they have such kindness and good manners. If everyone was like that life would be a dream. My favourite photograph was the one where they were sitting on the steps in the throne room with all of the bridesmaids around them and we had literally minutes to do that. We had almost run out of time but everyone was organised and we were ready to do it and we had bribes of jelly beans for the kids and within three minutes we were able to get everyone together and take the picture. The personalities of the individuals really shine through because we didn’t have time to stage anything and I think it’s wonderful.

The royal couple are set to celebrate the first anniversary of their marriage on April 29th.

The Duchess of Cambridge, an appointed ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic Games, was “very excited” to meet the national hockey team today at the Olympic Park in London; she played during her days at Marlborough College and was ecstatic to pick up a stick and show off her skills with Team GB.

However, when she saw a crowd had gathered to watch (not surprising), the Duchess said she was nervous because she hadn’t played in a long time: “I was really looking forward to coming here but now I am here and have discovered I have to play I am not feeling so confident,” she told the press. “Oh please don’t tell me I have to do it in front of all these people!” Kate said. “I don’t want anyone to watch! The last time I played was 2005, maybe. It feels like I haven’t held a stick for ten years. This is going to be so embarrassing. My brain thinks I can do all these wonderful things but my body just doesn’t play ball. I was striker so you had to get the timing exactly right, well that was the idea. I played on the left wing. I really enjoyed it and it is great to be here. I haven’t played since I stopped so I am really nervous now.”

The Duchess also spoke of her experience playing in her school days: “I used to play at school and I remember my muscles at the beginning of the season were agony. Do you still get bananas and oranges at half time? I don’t know if that was purely a school thing?” she asked the team.

Kate received from the team a white sleeveless team top with “Cambridge 1” lettered on the back and a polo style shirt for the Duke of Cambridge.

Diamond Jubilee U.K. tour starts with royal visit to Leicester

Photo Credit: XPOSUREPHOTOS.COM via the Daily Mail

The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Duchess of Cambridge have officially kicked off the Diamond Jubilee tour of the U.K. in Leicester. Massive crowds appeared today on every step of the tour and there are several reasons for this: First, everyone wants to get a glimpse of the new Duchess of Cambridge—the new “it” girl and world fashion icon— Second, Prince Harry’s Caribbean escapades have truly amped up the press coverage of the Queen’s Jubilee both nationally and internationally.

Here is how the day unfolded: the royals took the 10.15 train to Nottingham and then toured some of Leicester, before heading off to watch some cultural dancing at De Montfort Square. Security was extremely tight, as was to be expected— especially at the train station; a police helicopter was present and officers and patrol cars were all around: “Crowds stood three-deep on pavements surrounding the train station, behind crash barriers, as they waited to try to catch a glimpse of the royal party arriving…” reports the Daily Mail.

Next on the agenda was De Montfort University, where the Queen and Kate watched a student fashion show and the Duke of Edinburgh (less fashion inclined) heard about a school service project. As was the plan, Kate then chose a shoe design from one of six student sketches—the shoes will now be made for Kate to wear—the idea being to give the student a kick start in his or her career. The winner of the contest was Becka Hunt, a student whose shoe design was inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement ring.

After the show, it was off to a reception and lunch at the Grand Hall at St Martins House. Here, according to the Mail, Kate and the Duke of Edinburgh met with various outreach officials and the Queen met with various faith leaders as they were right near the cathedral.

The last stop of the day was the Clock Tower in Leicester city center. Here, the royals received a gift from the City.

Is Nicky Philipps to paint portrait of the Duchess?

Photo of the Duchess of Cambridge via wtop.com

It’s a well known fact that the Duchess of Cambridge will pose for a painting for the National Portrait Gallery; it is tradition and Kate is also a royal patron there. The question is, has someone else beaten the Gallery to the canvas? Will the Gallery portrait be the first of the Duchess or has the royal family already commissioned someone else to paint her first portrait? Recent news suggests the latter might be the case.

“Swanks at the National Portrait Gallery are putting it about that their outfit will soon be first to commission a portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge,” reports the Daily Mail’s Quentin Letts. However, he suggests this might not be the case; that one of his operatives in London recently spotted the Duchess of Cambridge leaving the London studio of portrait painter Nicky Philipps. As is expected, the studio will not confirm this to the media or that she is working on the portrait.

This would not be shocking or an outlandish accusation though, as Philipps has painted both Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland (Good friends of Prince Charles and parents of Pippa Middleton’s close friend George Percy): “She may not be groovy — not edgy enough for bien pensant metropolitans—“ says Letts in his piece, “but in the more discreetly upmarket houses of our kingdom she is regarded as the bumble-bee’s knees.”

Pippa signs £400,000 book deal. Is she cashing in on her royal connections?

Is Pippa Middleton cashing in on her connections to the royal family? Some might argue this is the case, after the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge signed a £400,000 book deal last week.

Would it have been possible for Pippa to have received such a lucrative book deal, if it weren’t for the royal wedding that skyrocketed her popularity back in April? The answer is probably not, but she still doesn’t want it to look to the public like she’s cashing in.

How is she addressing this issue? Pippa has timed the release of her party planning book strategically; it will arrive in stores after the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next Summer, but before next year’s holiday season.

Which publisher won Pippa’s signature? According the the Telegraph the lucky publisher is Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin books, says the Telegraph.

Pippa has pitched her book idea to many different publishers over the past few months, as her popularity blossomed due to royal wedding publicity.

Pippa Middleton was seen getting into the holiday spirit today as she glided about an ice skating rink, at the launch of Tiffany & Co. Presents Skate at Somerset House.

The sister of the Duchess of Cambridge wore a stylish white coat, black jeans and leather gloves as she sped about the rink with a friend.

According to reports, Pippa showed off her skating skills by not falling, not even once, while on the ice.

After skating, Pippa joined other famous attendees at the event (such as Dame Judi Dench), to watch singer Emeli Sande light up a Christmas tree before performing an acoustic set, reports the Mail.

Will and Kate help raise £4.2m at St. James’s Palace evening event

The numbers are in! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have helped raise an astounding £4.2m for a project to improve the National Memorial Arboretum, reports BBC News.

Last night, the couple played host and hostess to a whopping 120 people, at a reception and dinner to raise funds for the arboretum’s £12m appeal.

The event was held at St. James’s Palace, where all of the dining tables were decorated with tiny trees, to be planted at the 150-acre arboretum in Staffordshire.

William, who gave a short, before dinner speech, launched the initiative and became a patron in 2009.
