So, where did the Duke and Duchess awake on their first anniversary?

According to various sources, the royal couple arrived at a traditional Suffolk coaching inn, The Westleton Crown, around 1am on Sunday morning. All of the rooms were rented out for the wedding guests of William and Kate’s close friends Hannah Gillingham (an old school friend of Kate’s) and  Robert Carter, according to The Telegraph.

The royal couple arrived at the inn after attending the wedding and slept in The Swan room (around £165 a night).

In the morning, Will and Kate ate a traditional buffet breakfast with their friends, before traveling back to their cottage in North Wales.

The inn’s General manager, Gareth Clarke, spoke to The Telegraph about the visit:

We were made aware that some special guests were arriving, but we didn’t know just how special,” he said. “It was a lovely family occasion with a relaxed atmosphere and they were both seemed really happy to be in a comfortable environment with friends. William and Kate pitched up at about 1am and enjoyed a drink at the bar before retiring to the Swan room for the night. They both ate a cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs before they left in the morning. They’re the first royalty we’ve had staying with us. It’s not every day you welcome the second in line to the throne.

Another member of the staff recounted observations of the Duke and Duchess’s visit to the The Telegraph as well:

I saw them when they came down for breakfast. They were chatting with everyone and having a catch-up.

From what I hear, everybody at the wedding really enjoyed themselves. William and Kate were very friendly and wanted to be treated just like everyone else – they weren’t hiding away. They were getting involved and including themselves in the party. They arrived quite late but had a glass of champagne. We didn’t really see very much of them, because they went up to their room, but they had a buffet breakfast with the group. When they left, they said thank you for having them and said they had enjoyed their stay.

Duke and Duchess to attend Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials this year, say event organizers who have released a public statement.

The decision is an interesting one— given the Duchess has a slight allergy to horses. However, considering Kate’s new roll as an Olympic Ambassador for London 2012, she might be willing to tough out the event; it will  be one of the last chances for eventers to “impress” the Olympic selectors, reports Horse&Hound.

The Duchess will also want to show support to her new family member Zara Phillips: “With the fifth spot in Team GBR very much open, the Duke’s cousin, Zara Phillips, will be hoping to impress with Trevor Hemmings’ High Kingdom, 10th at Burghley last year,” reports Horse&Hound.

The royal couple will watch the final jumping test section before presenting prizes to the successful competitors.
This will not be the first or final time the Duchess tries to overcome her horse allergy.
Kate usually watches William play polo from afar, though, she did attend a charity polo match last year at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club; It was there that the Duchess told a source she is trying to overcome the allergy: “According to Clarisa Ru, wife of Santa Barbara Polo Club president Wesley Ru, Kate has been working on overcoming her allergy,” reported PEOPLE online on July 11, 2011.
“I got a chance to have a conversation with Kate,” Ru told PEOPLE. “I asked if she was into polo before she met William. She said no. But she’s been riding horses for awhile and she hopes to play polo one day. She said ‘I’m actually allergic to them, but the more time one spends with them the less allergic you become.”

Despite reports that Prince Harry has been told to tone down his social life and focus on his military career, it seems he’s not taken the advice (given by military personnel) to heart.

On Friday night, Harry took part in a marathon drinking session; he began the night at a Barts in Fulham, before continuing the evening at the Bunga Bunga Bar, run by a former Etonian, according to the Daily Mail.

A source told The Mail:

Harry decided he was up for a night out and started drinking at about 8 o’clock. He was pretty plastered by the end of the night and left Bunga Bunga at about 3.30 in the morning. They had been drinking cocktails and shots and Harry was in really good spirits. It was like he was in a world of his own. His friends were chatting on the pavement and Harry skipped into the road and did a little jive. It was hilarious to watch and he was really getting into it. He gave one of his mates a bear hug good night and then did a funny little jig to his chauffeur driven car.

Harry’s night culminated with a private lock-in until 3.30 am.

Earlier in the day, however, Harry was a picture perfect Prince— rigged out in a dapper suit to attend a a memorial service for the late Queen Mother and Princess Margaret at Windsor Castle. In tow were many members of the royal family, most notably The Queen.

Thousands of people are expected to line the streets to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend and the crowd is sure experience some royal wedding déjà vu on June 5th when the royal family polishes up the royal carriages, to ride through the streets of Westminster in full pomp and circumstance.

The royals will travel along the very same procession route that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge used on their wedding day, reports the PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN in a recent media release.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Henry of Wales (Prince Harry) will depart from the Palace of Westminster and proceed towards Buckingham Palace.

According to the press release: “There will be personnel from all three military services lining the streets for the procession, military bands along the route, and the procession will be accompanied by the Sovereign’s Escort. The King’s Troop will fire a 60 gun salute during the carriage procession. There will be a Guard of Honour present in the Forecourt of Buckingham Palace, says the release.”

Once at the palace, the royals will appear on the balcony— the same where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a kiss in front of the world on their wedding day—to witness an RAF Flypast and a Feu de Joie (“Fire of Joy”).

Prince Harry, now in Brazil, joined in the Sport Relief mile close to Rio de Janeiro’s Flamengo beach today. He set the race of hundreds off in fine style with the wave of a Brazilian Flag. The Prince began the race at a jog, next to a blind athlete, but ran a brisk mile in around six-minutes.

In pure Harry style, he crossed the finish line wearing a paper cut-out mask of his brother’s face.

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt spoke to the media last night about Harry’s trip to Brazil: “Well Prince Harry is worth a thousand politicians,” said Hunt, “as you can see he has extraordinary celebrity pulling power. But also the way he’s approached things here in Brazil, sums up what we’re most proud about with the Royal Family. He’s self effacing, he’s interested, he really engages with people, he joins in – great qualities – and I just think we’re incredibly lucky to have a Royal Family that does such a good job in banging the drum for Britain.”

He added: “We’re never going to have a year like 2012, it’s an extraordinary year for Britain and what we want do is bang the drum for everything we’re proud of. This is the year when we are officially allowed to get out to everyone huge messages about what we’ve achieved as a country, our role in sport, inventing or codifying eight of the world’s top ten sports. The inventions that Britain has made which have shaped the modern world – from the industrial revolution to the world wide web – our incredible culture, the home of Shakespeare, Chaucer, Dickens and so on. So we’ve got this opportunity and this is a year if we bang the drum loud enough we’ve got a chance to create jobs for British people and business for British companies.”

Will and Kate dazzle at National Memorial Arboretum Appeal dinner

Photo Credit: Getty Images via the Daily Mail

The Duchess of Cambridge looked glamorous and relaxed in an Alice Temperley Grecian-style gown, as she played hostess at a reception and dinner event held at St. James’s Palace tonight.

William was close by his wife’s side, as the cause promoted at the event was one close to his heart; the National Memorial Arboretum Appeal was launched by William in 2009 and he has been a patron since that year. William lost two close friends in Iraq and Afghanistan, so honoring them and others who have fallen for their country is very important to him.

The guests were served a three-course meal at the dinner on tables decorated with tiny trees, to be planted in the 150-acre Staffordshire Arboretum, reports the Mail.

William gave a short speech before the dinner, in which he spoke of the Arboretum’s progress in the past few years; he said it has become an “iconic focal point” for the rememberance of British heroes:“For Britons today, and for generations of Britons to come, the example of dedicating one’s life to helping and protecting others and to the service of our Country remains core to our values as a Nation,” he told the audience.

“Nowhere is this lesson better taught than through contemplation of the names inscribed on the memorials in Staffordshire.‪‪ It is a place of sanctuary for those who come to remember and a place of quiet pride in the selflessness and sacrifice of those who have gone before.  It is also a place of education.”

The duke hopes to help the Arboretum reach its £12 million goal, which will turn the Arboretum into a world-renowned centre for remembrance.

What to wear to the royal wedding: A guide for women

Kate Middleton at the wedding of close friends Nicholas van Cutsem and Alice Hadden-Pato

We’ve discussed how men will dress at the royal wedding in great detail, but perhaps we’ve covered the female dress code less extensively.

A military uniform, a morning coat or a lounge suit? What on earth does that mean for women?

Kate Middleton attending a wedding

Well, the royal wedding invitation won’t tell you— only the dress code for men is listed, women are meant to follow suit (no pun intended).

This makes it especially daunting for a female to shop for a royal wedding outfit.

So, let’s go over everything from the tip of your bun to the rings on your fingers and the glass slippers on your feet.

Well, maybe‑ you won’t be wearing glass slippers— we don’t want to “outdo” the bride, after all.

And that is the first rule of thumb, NEVER ever try to outdo the bride and don’t try to look too “sexy,” even if your angling to snag a royal suitor.

The key to dressing for a wedding? “Women should look elegant in a suit or dress – appropriate for the season and the weather…” says Debretts‘s etiquette guide.

What about colour?

The general rule of thumb is not to wear head-to-toe white, cream or black (white being the color the bride wears and black could be seen as to somber).

However, depending upon accessories, sometimes these mostly taboo colours can be worn tastefully.

CNN reports that women have more of a choice than their male counterparts when it comes to the colour, who are stuck with variations of gray, black, blue and if a man is really feeling really daring, brown.

“They should stick with pastel shades, perhaps a subtle floral pattern,” says Hunt.

“If you want to be daring, cream isn’t out of the question, even white — as long as it looks nothing like a wedding dress!” says Peta Hunt, the fashion director of upscale wedding magazine You&Your Wedding to CNN.

“They should stick with pastel shades, perhaps a subtle floral pattern,” she said “If you want to be daring, cream isn’t out of the question, even white — as long as it looks nothing like a wedding dress!

What does this mean?

  • Watch the cleavage‑ no scandalously plunging necklines…And, in terms of a dress or skirt? If you have to ask “Is this too short?” it probably is.
  • Sleeves and Dents gloves are a “do.” Why Dents? They have a “royal warrant” meaning they supply to the royal household. In 1937 Dents manufactured the Coronation Glove worn by H.R.H King George VI at his coronation. Additionally, they supplied Queen Elizabeth at her coronation in 1953.
  • Appear proper, but not stuffy.

Its tempting...but, no, you cant wear your tiara to the royal wedding.

The headgear

On the 29thyour outfit should be all about the accessories, but there is one rule.

Ladies, it’s fine to dawn our tiara’s at home (and I know you own one), but in your abode is where those sparkly princess pieces should stay.

A tiara is for the bride only.

Kate Middleton arrives at a wedding wearing a stylish hat, black coat and practical purple pumps.

“The hats will no doubt be grand and extravagant. But everyone will be squashed into the Abbey together, so they really can’t go too big, or it’s going to be a logistical nightmare,” says Hunt.

“Hats are traditional, but by no means compulsory, at weddings,” says Debretts. “It is notoriously difficult to socially kiss while wearing a wide-brimmed hat. There is a knack to tilting the head at a suitable angle, but two ladies both in wide brimmed hats should avoid such an ‘intimate’ greeting.”

“Designers say some women began placing their hat orders when the couple announced their engagement in November. Some have advised clients to be original, focus on their outfits, forget about the price and don’t outdo the bride or royals,” reports the Associated Press.

If the tiara was going to be your attempt to avoid hat hair or awkward greetings that sometimes arise because of a wide brimmed hat, wear a fascinator (a delicate headpiece with a flower or feather attached to the side) or choose your size of hat with care; a wide-brimmed hat could lead to unexpected trouble in a crowd.

The dress:

The trick is “being both fashion forward on the one hand and retaining a sense of tradition and reverence on the other,” says Peta Hunt to CNN “It’s a very fine line to tread.”Most women will probably be clad in a “shift dress.” What is a shift dress? It is a straight loose-fitting dress worn with a nice neat jacket over the top.

What are some designers you can expect to see guests wearing?

Bruce Oldfield, Issa  and Philip Treacey are among designers expected to be seen at the event.

Now, for the shoes…

When it comes to the shoes it’s all about common sense.

You will want to be in a pair that are elegant enough to match you outfit and sensible enough to be comfortable.

Flats or heels are fine, but nothing too casual like sandals. Make sure the heels are not too high.
