Following Prince Harry’s wildly successful solo tour, he has been selected to receive a prestigious award in recognition of his demonstrated support for veterans and serving members of the armed forces: the Atlantic Council’s 2012 Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership.

St. James’s Palace told media that Harry will accept the award on behalf of both The Duke of Cambridge and himself, at a special dinner in Washington D.C.  on May 7.

In an official statement, the Palace says: “Prince Harry will use the award to pay tribute to British and American veterans’ charities for their achievements in helping to rehabilitate wounded servicemen and women and to reintegrate those who have served in the Armed Forces into civilian life.”

A spokeswoman for the Palace told CNN that Harry’s trip to the U.S. will probably last under 24 hours.

The visit to the U.S. comes not long after the Prince took part in his final phase of Apache helicopter training in California and Arizona; the Prince plans to go to Afghanistan for a second stint of service in the near future.

Maybe the Duchess of Cambridge has healing hugs … Six-year-old Diamond Marshall, who was chosen to present the Duchess with flowers at the Calgary airport earlier this year, is now in remission from her cancer.

Diamond’s father told the Mail he believes meeting the Duchess helped his daughter fight the illness. The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada arranged the meeting.

When Diamond saw the Duchess in July, she was so excited that she ran and flung her arms around Kate’s neck. Not only did Diamond then present Kate with flowers, but also a heart shaped box with a friendship bracelet inside.

A St James’ Palace spokesman told the Mail: “I passed the news to Their Royal Highnesses, who asked me to convey how pleased they are to hear the news and their best wishes to Diamond and her family at this happy time. They hope for a joyful 2012 for Diamond and her family.”

Diamond lost her mother, Memory Marshall, to cancer four years ago.

St.James’s Palace confirms: Will and Kate have returned from honeymoon on North Island

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have returned to Britain from their lavish 10-day honeymoon on North Island, in the Seychelles, reports St.James’s Palace.

“The honeymooners left the luxurious seclusion of the islands on Friday,” reports People.

The press were respectful of Will and Kate’s privacy during this time, and there were many people helping to ensure that the newlyweds were kept out of the public eye, for a price: “Sources say the cost of security to keep prying eyes away contributed significantly to a honeymoon price tag of more than $700,000.” reports PopEater.

The Seychelles coast guard helped ensure the couple’s privacy and British and Seychelles government officials both had to keep tight lipped about their location.

There was only one glitch in Will and Kate’s stay: The honeymoon location was almost revealed by a pair of commoners, reports PopEater.

“An Austrian couple sailing a catamaran in the Seychelles spied what they assumed was a deserted isle, but claimed that when they tried landing there, security personnel for the royal couple quickly asked them to leave.”

Still, Will and Kate left their honeymoon in a blissful state, ready to embark on their new life together at their 4-bedroom cottage in Anglesey, Wales:

“They left happy and clearly content with their stay,” said the head of the Seychelles tourism board to AP, who saw the couple leave Friday.

The island nation’s foreign minister said in a statement that the people of Seychelles are honoured the couple chose to return to Seychelles for their honeymoon:

“The people of Seychelles are truly honored that Prince William and his wife chose to return to Seychelles for this special holiday and we are proud to have been able to offer them a peaceful and private getaway,” Jean-Paul Adam said.“We hope their stay was everything they had hoped for and we look forward to welcoming them back to our shores again in the future,”

The Palace released a statement on Saturday regarding the royal couple’s time spent on North Island:”The couple thoroughly enjoyed their time together,” they said, “and they are grateful to the Seychelles Government for their assistance in making the honeymoon such a memorable and special ten days.”

“In a world of so much turmoil they bring a welcome and much needed breath of fresh air with their warmth and humility,” said the Seychelles High Commissioner to Great Britain, Patrick Pillay, who was also present to see them off.

The last day of their sun-kissed vacation, the royal couple invited the coast guard ashore, to personally thank them for their efforts in ensuring they had a private and safe stay, reports AP.

Officials have not confirmed when Wills will return to work at the RAF base in Anglesey, but he is expected to be in the air again soon.

And Kate will begin her duties as a royal housewife, many are eager to see what they will be. Will her duties include making heirs? And how long will it take for Kate to get pregnant?

While many royal couples are notorious for having their first child no more than a year-and-a-half after marriage, Will and Kate might not take the conventional approach of starting a family. The couple might wait for a while yet–but, one wonders if Kate’s advanced age for a royal bride will make them want to start a family as soon as possible.

Queen Elizabeth II has finally met Kate Middleton’s parents— She invited Michael and Carole Middleton to Windsor Castle on Wednesday for a private lunch (and a spot of tea perhaps?).

Kate Middleton was first introduced to the Queen in May 2008, at the marriage of William’s cousin Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly, reports AFP.

“It was in amongst a lot of other guests and she was very friendly,” Kate recalled in an interview to mark her engagement last November.

Prince William added  “She had wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello. We had a little chat and got on very well.”

William to spend night before wedding at St. James’s palace with father and possibly brother.

Prince William will spend the night before his Wedding at St. James’s Palace with Price Charles and Prince Harry.

Reports say Prince William will spend his last night as a bachelor with his father at St. James’s Palace, where Prince Harry will join them the next day— before they set off to Westminster Abbey—where the prince will marry Kate Middleton.

“Prince Charles will reportedly cut short his Easter break in Scotland and has been excused from attending a dinner for foreign nationals hosted by the Queen so that he can be by his son’s side,” says Splash news.

They’re very close,” said a Sun source to AFP of the three person family. It’s possible they’ll spend time alone with their father on the eve of the wedding.’

A source told The Sun, ‘Prince Charles is a loving father who’s a lot closer to his sons than people often realise. He’s made it clear his priority in the hours before the wedding is his son.’

Kate Middleton spotted shopping in London, for her honeymoon?

Kate Middleton shopping in London, Fame.

Kate Middleton was spotted shopping in London for clothing on Tuesday— the pieces she purchased are probably for her honeymoon, sources say.
She picked up $350 worth of summary items from the British retailer “Warehouse” on King’s road and also stopped by Banana Republic:

“Speculation is that Middleton is stocking up on essentials for her forthcoming honeymoon;” said the Telegraph. “…the four pieces she picked up in Warehouse, including a poppy-print strapless dress, £60 and a short tropical bird-print dress, £65, are rather “holiday” in spirit. She also bought several items from Banana Republic’s summer collection, although the store refused to divulge specifics.”

She exited the store with three dresses and a blouse, says People.

People reports the frock above is one of three Kate middleton purchased for her honeymoon.

“She popped in and had a quick look around [Warehouse] with a friend,” a spokesperson told People. “It was very exciting, and everyone said how lovely and down-to-earth she was.”

Then “the imminent bride chatted to staff about how she “loves Banana Republic,” and how she “will be shopping with them in future,” reports the Telegraph. They also report some of her other favorite shopping destinations:”She often shops at TK Maxx for heavily-discounted designer brands,” says the Telegraph, “as well as at high-street favourites LK Bennett and Whistles, and regularly recycles her favourite pair of suede knee-high boots for public outings.”

Raise your glass to Captain Harry of Wales! Yes, he was promoted.

Dylan Martinez/Reuters

Prince Harry has something to celebrate other than his brother’s upcoming nuptials, he was promoted last Thursday to the rank of “Captain” after five years of  service as an officer in the British army, reports the Telegraph.

So, what does this mean for royal  wedding watchers?

The change in station could promise a new insignia on Harry’s uniform at the royal wedding, says People.

Though”…there’s some thinking that Harry’s royal wedding outfit will be the gold brocaded state ceremonial uniform of the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals, which was the army regiment he originally joined when he left Sandhurst military academy,” they say.

When People approached palace aids they would not confirm or deny the rumours of how Harry will dress for the Wedding.

The Mail  believes “the prince will likely wear the gold brocade of the Household Cavalry State Ceremonial Uniform, rather than that of the Army Air Corps.”

What does the promotion mean for the prince’s career?

It means the Prince could be eligible to serve in Afghanistan from Spring 2012., says the Telegraph.

A St James’s Palace, spokesman told the Telegraph that “…He [Harry] will now progress to the Apache ‘conversion to role’ course where he will learn to operate the aircraft and its weapons systems in a variety of challenging operational scenarios.”

“According to the palace,” says People, “Prince Harry will be based at Wattisham Airfield in Suffolk and also spend some time training in the United States.”
